Riding a bike from SF to LA? Are you crazy?

I might be crazy to do this, I might just be crazy period, but next year I am riding my bike 545 miles, over 7 days, from San Francisco to Los Angeles to stop HIV/AIDS. I am riding in the AIDS/LifeCycle, third time, and I need your help.

About four years ago, a close friend mine became HIV+ and when he told me I flashed back to all the images I'd seen growing up on television. I knew HIV treatment had come a long way in 20 years, but at that moment I feared the worst and he could have just said "I'm dying" and it wouldn't have made much difference.

Thankfully treatment has come a long way, he's healthy, and can afford healthcare. A lot of those living with HIV/AIDS are not nearly as lucky, so when a friend tried to sign me up for this, I said yes. In two previous rides, I've raised over $12,000 through your donations of support that has funded the SF AIDS Foundation's life saving work.

The Kansas City streetcar that just recently returned to service in San Francisco after a previous accident was involved in another accident this morning. Hopefully it will return to service quickly this time.

Report questions generic version of antidepressant Wellbutrin

Just a few weeks ago, my psychiatrist took me off my anti-depressant because it seems to be loosing its effect. This week I learned a study found the generic version of Wellbutin, called budeprion, I was switched to might not actually work.

Radiohead has set the internet abuzz with the announcement of their new album, In Rainbows will be available next week for download with no set price. The way it's set up, when you go to pre-order the album, there is a field where you are prompted to entry what you want to pay for it. They don't even have a suggested price, the default is an empty field.

A group of residents and merchants in the Castro district is organizing to challenge city plans to shut down the annual Halloween celebration in the neighborhood this year. The group, calling itself "Citizens for Halloween," is led by Alix Rosenthal, who ran unsuccessfully for supervisor last year against incumbent Supervisor Bevan Dufty, whose district includes the Castro and who has been a leading advocate for ending the city's practice of providing crowd control, staging and portable lavatories for the otherwise unofficial event.

A new theme of mine made it's way into the new release of Vox today. The photo comes from the AIDS/LifeCycle, a 7 day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness to fight HIV/AIDS. I snapped this one on Day 1 (SF to Santa Cruz) of the ride in 2005 when two of my friends we passing each other up ahead of me.
