The SF Chronicle was at the courthouse for the California Supreme Court ruling today for reactions. You can spot San Francisco City Hall, where all of this began four years ago, kitty-corner in the background.
Today I took the trolley to get to Team Vox World Headquarters (AKA Six Apart's office), because I'm sick and wouldn't have gotten a seat on Metro. Riding above ground gave me a chance to see the work crew putting up rainbow flags along Market Street.
June is Gay Pride month and here San Francisco the we have our big celebration on the final weekend, but events are held all month starting with the Rainbow flags which line Market Street from the Ferry Building to the Castro.
San Francisco's long sought after GLBT Historical Society Museum and Archival Center won't fit in the parking lot adjacent to the current Castro branch library according to this Bay Area Reporter story.
The first of two studies on building the GLBT Historical Society Museum and Archival Center finds that the site on 16th Street near Noe could not fit the estimated 16,550 square feet that would be needed and also gives a hint at what it will cost to construct a "high level of quality" facility, $525 per square foot.
"'We are determined to find a solution that will be decidedly less than that,' said [co-chair of the society's board Don Romesburg]."
"[Paul Boneberg, the society's part-time executive director] added, 'I think it is very high, and obviously, not something ... we are not going to go down a path that requires us to spend $10.6 million.'"
The story notes that District Supervisor Bevan Dufty has already informed library officials who will renovate the library (a 60's/70's still piece of concrete and glass I don't find welcoming or attractive) now that it's been ruled out as a museum site.
So now what? Society officials say they are only interesting in locating along Mission Street's "Museum Row" or in the Castro, but where in the Castro can they find room for a 16,550 square foot facility with room for a museum, theater, bookstore and cafe, along with all the needed office and storage space?
This saturday the T-Third Street line is coming out of beta and that means some major service changes for other lines as well.
Here's a summary, and there is detailed information on the Muni web site.
T-Third Street service starts
The training wheels are coming off and full time service between Visitacion Vallety and the Castro. The T-Third Street will replace the Castro shuttle with more frequent, full time service.
9X (9AX and 9BX too) is getting beefed up
The 9X also going full time and be extended at the south to City College and at the North to Fisherman's Wharf replacing the 15-Third Street line. It's a little more complicated but you can read the details.
N-Judah to gets a little taken off the top
Don't freak out, but the N-Judah will turn back at Embarcadero instead of going out to Caltrain.
J-Church goes the distance
Caltrain's not being left out because the J-Church will take over for the N-Judah, but only during peak hours. Those peak hours are being timed to fit Caltrain's schedule.
10-Townsend and 54-Felton get to play too
The 10-Townsend will pick up a couple of the 15-Third Street's stops and the 54-Felton is being rerouted along Newhall.
15-Third Street will retire
The name is being passed on and the 15 will have some time to enjoy it's other hobbies. There a nice thank and farewell message Muni's written for the occasion.
The MTA launched a new web site today which consilidates Muni and the DTP into a single web site.
For being the main Muni web site, it says remarkably little about Muni, in fact it doesn't even mention what services Muni offers on the home page, nor if you link to "Transit" does it provide any useful information on the main transit page.
Here's something fun to do, try and find how to buy a parking permit.
They welcome feedback, but I doubt we'll see much change.
Following up on a topic Schomer started about these landmark illustrations, I picked up this pair of magnets over the weekend when my boyfriend and I were wandering through the Ferry Building.
I picked the two I've spent the most time riding my bike through. Many of the AIDS/LifeCycle training rides I lead over the last year began and ended at the Presido Sports Basement just across from Crissy Field.
